Strengthening Democracy in Europe

European elections 4 to 7 June 2009: Pulpit declaration and Prayer of the Community of Protestant Churches in Europe (CPCE) for Pentecost or Trinity 2009

The CEPE thinks that the European Parliament is very important for European politics. In the view of the churches, responsible work for people in Europe has been done there for many years.

The CPCE points out that many political questions today are decided on a European level. For the financial and economic crisis and the challenge of climate change we need solidarity between the European states.

The Community of Protestant Churches in Europe calls in its pulpit declaration for people to go and vote in the European elections in order to strengthen democracy in Europe. It asks congregations to pray for people in Europe and especially for those who bear political responsibility.
